South West London Anaerobic digestion and material recovery facility
Trent and its partners are working on an application to redevelop a former sewage treatment works as a 26.6 acre integrated waste management site and anaerobic digestion facility.
The proposed development consists of:
•ﾠA 6MWe anaerobic digestion plant using a front-end autoclave waste recovery facility to recycle approximately 195,000tpa of mixed source, commercial and industrial and segregated green waste
•ﾠA material recovery facility for the processing of approximately 100,000tpa of mixed recyclable materials, within an 80,000 sq ft building
•ﾠA 2.3 acre open recycling area for the processing and recovery of construction and demolition waste
•ﾠA 1.5 acre skip hire, collection and waste facility with 20,000 sq ft of associated buildings.
In addition, the proposals include 8.2 acres set aside for green restoration.
The site will recover segregated waste streams through a combination of steam sterilisation, materials recovery, physical sorting and processing.
All biomass material will be recovered and treated by AD to produce renewable electricity and heat. The energy will largely be exported to the local electricity distribution network but will also be used for local district heating.
