Hoddesdon Anaerobic digestion plant
Construction is under way on a 2.76 acre anaerobic digestion (AD) facility that will be fuelled by municipal and commercial food waste from Hertfordshire, London and surrounding areas.
Trent brought the site through the planning process and has now leased it to Tamar Energy Ltd, the UK’s largest AD developer. Tamar is funding construction and will operate the 3MW plant.
The AD plant, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2015, will take up to 60,000tpa of biodegradable waste such as food, vegetable and grease trap wastes. The materials will be screened and shredded to remove plastics and other non-biodegradable matter, which will be transferred to an adjacent advanced thermal treatment plant.
In addition to renewable electricity, which will attract Government-guaranteed Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs), the plant will produce fertilizer as a by-product of the AD process.
